Over 45 countries were in attendance worldwide, with over 5000 athletes taking place in competition, making it now the largest international karate tournament in the world.  Attendance was particularly strong this year given that Karate is now a candidate sport for inclusion in the 2020 Olympic games.

Kachi Karate, of Honolulu, Hawaii, sent a group of three outstanding students to Las Vegas for these tournaments.  The following are their ages and results:

2013 JUNIOR INTERNATIONAL CUP
Shosei Anegawa of Montessori Community School (age 9):  Kumite (sparring) Gold medal, Kata (forms) Silver medal

2013 US OPEN
Shosei Anegawa (age 9):  Kumite Gold, Kata Bronze
Treyson Dote of Kaiser High School (age 14):  Kumite Bronze
Amy McNeill of Punahou School (age 17):  Kumite Gold

The students were trained and coached by Kachi Karate Hawaii Senseis Robert Koncal and Shannon Nishi, both of Honolulu. Congratulations at all students who represented our school.
