Zarian won gold medal in kata and gold in kumite. Way to go Zarian!!! He would like to share his experience.
My first nationals experience started with training and conditioning everyday of the week. My cousins Zena, Zander and Zane and I practiced our kata and kumite over and over, not knowing how important it was. I trained with my teachers Sensei Robert, Sensei Malie, Sensei Shan and Sensei Mika. I also trained with my Senspais such as Mr. and Mrs. Anegawa, Amy, Treson, Jared, Shosei, Megu, and Mylan. Training did not stop in class for me. I practiced on my own at home. I did not know what to expect at nationals, but I knew I needed to be really prepared.
When nationals arrived, I was super excited. There were so many people competing that I had tingling in my stomach. When it was time to compete, I was focused and ready to perform my best.
When I received the gold in both kata and kumite, I couldn't believe it. It was super cool and I couldn't wait to show my family and friends at home. I was excited that Zena got gold and sliver and Zane and Zander got bronze. I was so proud of Team Z.
During the last two days of competition we watched the older competitors compete. It was so awesome to see the older guys compete in kumite. I learned so much from watching others perform both katas and kumite. I hope I am as good as they are when I am their age.
The last two days of our trip, we visited Kings Island amusement park, the Cincinnnati Zoo and the Cincinnati Reds baseball game. I also got to meet a Cincinnati Bengals football player, Cobi Hamilton. It was really awesome.
Spending this trip with my cousins, aunty, & uncle was the best. It helped me get over the tingling in my belly for nationals. I am so proud of my cousins Zena, Zander, and Zane. We worked hard and brought home six medals. That's good for our first time to nationals. Now I understand why we trained so hard.
I want to say thank you to all my Senseis, especially Sensei Robert. You have been so supportive and encouraging every step of the way. You are the best! Thank you Senpais for being so helpful and taking the time to help me improve. Thank you Aunty Zenelle and Uncle Keao for cheering me on, being so helpful, and keeping me in check. I want to thank my Mom and Dad for everything! And my family, who was at home cheering us on, thank you and I love you! This is one experience I will never forget. :)
